What defines how shiny a diamond is?

The shiniest diamond in the world would generally be one that exhibits exceptional brilliance, fire, and sparkle. The sparkle of a diamond is determined by its cut, which affects how light interacts with the stone and how it is reflected back to the viewer's eye.

Diamonds with excellent cut grades and well-proportioned facets tend to maximize the amount of light that enters the diamond and is reflected back, resulting in a high level of brilliance and sparkle. Such diamonds are often referred to as "ideal cut" or "excellent cut" diamonds.

It's important to note that the brilliance and sparkle of a diamond can also be influenced by other factors such as its clarity, color, and carat weight. A flawless, colorless diamond of larger size can appear more dazzling due to its overall beauty and presence.

When it comes to round brilliant diamonds it is much easier to select them as GIA and other diamond grading labs have a cut grade assigned to them. For fancy shape diamonds (any diamond that is not round) there is a bit more work to be done when selecting "the one" as labs don’t assign a cut grade to them as there are various proportions that can be found within each shape.

Working with a reputable jeweler or diamond expert who can guide you in selecting a diamond with exceptional cut quality and overall beauty can help ensure you find a diamond that shines brilliantly.
